5 Steps to Boost Pinterest Reach

If you follow me you know that I’m obsessed with Pinterest, and you also know that I focus on and test a lot with my Pinterest reach. I find it to be the best measure of website traffic through Pinterest.

Earlier in the year, when I saw a major dip in my Pinterest reach, I set out to test a strategy and was able to almost double the reach within two weeks.

That 5-step strategy still helps me keep a good reach, but since then Pinterest has implemented a plethora of changes and features that e-commerce owners and marketers need to consider.

How to Optimize Pinterest for E-Commerce Welcome to Part II of Pinterest for E-commerce! In the last session, I shared with you the basic steps to set up Pinterest for your e-commerce website and prepare for more traffic with Pinterest.

How to Optimize Pinterest for E-commerce

To increase the number of eyes on your products, you need to optimize your pins for maximum reach.

In the post How to Set Up Pinterest for E-commerce, I mentioned a few things to focus on to increase Pinterest reach and consequently boost traffic to your e-commerce website.

    Here’s a recap of that:

    • SEO – optimizing Pinterest for maximum reach
    • Visuals and branding
    • Optimized and Consistent Pinning
    • Connecting with your Pinterest audience

With that in mind, let’s break it down, step-by-step, and make it easier to digest, shall we?

STEP 1: Optimizing SEO on Pinterest

Much like ranking on Google, you need to use SEO best-practices to show up on people’s searches.

    Add Relevant Keywords: Just as you add keywords to blog posts, you also need to add relevant keywords to your pins and Pinterest profile;

Use the Power of Hashtags: Hashtags are meant to make it easier to find and follow a topic. You can type it up on the search box and all posts with that hashtag show up for your convenience.

STEP 2: Optimize Visuals on Pinterest:

When I talk about visuals on Pinterest I’m referring to both the product images you pin and the overall look of your boards.

Here are some tips to optimize your branding on Pinterest:

Pin High Quality, Tall Lifestyle Images: Aesthetics is key on Pinterest, so you need to create visually enticing pins and board for people to re-pin your content.

For e-commerce websites, you’ll need high-quality photos of your products in a lifestyle scenario to entice people to click through and pin those images to their boards.

In fact, it has been shown that lifestyle and tall pins perform better than any other pins on Pinterest.

Create Clean Board Covers: Board covers are the main image people see on a Pinterest board. These images are the face of your boards, if you will. They represent the main theme and topic of that board and build specific expectations.

Bloggers tend to use lots of graphic elements and fill up the cover space with the name of the board. However, for e-commerce businesses, you want to keep your covers clean, clear and easy on the eyes.

    STEP 3: Optimize Pinning Schedule

What you pin to your boards may dictate the branding quality of your Pinterest profile, but how and when you pin dictate the effectiveness of your marketing!

For maximum reach and re-pinning power — bringing traffic to your website — you need to optimize your pinning schedule to pin consistently and at the best times.

The key to optimizing your pinning schedule is to automate it to make it most effective and efficient, cutting hours of work and avoiding low-performing timing.

Tailwind App to Optimize Pinning Schedule

Tailwind is by far the best marketing tool for Pinterest, in my opinion. A few days ago, someone complained that this tool is just a scheduler, but once you understand Tailwind better, you’ll see that it is so much more than that!

I could write a whole post or e-book on Tailwind alone, but to keep it short and simple here’s 5 benefits of using Tailwind:

    1. Tailwind is a supported and approved Pinterest marketing partner;
    1. Tailwind Tribes Power to boost pin reach
    1. Top-notch Analytics to see pinning ROI
    1. SmartSchedule Feature to optimize pinning
    1. Heat Map Indicator for high-performing pins

Tailwind for Pinterest takes away the guesswork and makes pinning consistently and on high-performing times much easier and faster.

STEP 4: Connect with Your Pinterest Audience

Promoting products without connecting with the people on the other end won’t get you far. That’s true for Pinterest marketing as it is for both digital and traditional marketing in general.

Pin beyond your products: You need to think beyond your products and look into what your customers and Pinterest followers like.

Create boards that relate to your audience’s interests, especially if those interests link well with your products.

Repin popular content: Make use of the social buzz effect, and pin trending content on Pinterest for better chances of getting more eyes on your pins and more re-pins as well.

You can locate trending content by using the Pinterest search menu. Much like Google search, it will give you both your recent searches and trending suggestions.
